#GivingTuesday is an important day, a day to help those most fragile in our communities. A day to unite us all in generosity to make a difference in the world at the start of the busy holiday season.
In Lake County, 117,000 women, 50,000 men, and 60,7000 children will be victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives.
Real children and adults in our communities are struggling every day to survive and cope with the hurt and fear from violence in their own homes.
Violence that is not normal.
Last year we helped create a new normal for thousands.
We helped 15,630 people when they needed it most. We answered 2,004 calls to our crisis line. We opened our doors and provided 6,223 nights of emergency shelter to 220 victims of domestic violence. We guided 3,016 courageous survivors through the court-room experience of requesting an order of protection. We were there when 202 children needed a safe, supervised way to visit their parents. And, we helped to prevent violence by providing education to 9,405 students and adults in the community.
But there are still many in need.
This year, the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County (HFNLC) will be matching new and increased donations from November 26 through December 10 up to $10,000. A matching gift means that your gift will double the crucial lifesaving services that we provide.
$50 provides safe family visits at our Family Visitation Center for 1 family for 2 weeks
$100 provides 3 hours of prevention education for 60 middle and high school students
$250 provides 24 hours of emergency crisis line services
$500 provides 1 day of court advocacy for 10 victims, including orders of protection
