Internship Experience at A Safe Place

Interns at A Safe Place gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a comprehensive domestic violence and human trafficking agency. Opportunities are designed to provide exposure to both direct service and program support roles, depending on education level, experience, and placement needs.

Direct Client Work

Interns may have the opportunity to engage in supervised direct service with survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. This can include:

  • Assisting with client intake and needs assessments
  • Supporting crisis intervention and safety planning under staff supervision
  • Observing or co-facilitating counseling, advocacy, or support groups (when appropriate)
  • Providing resource navigation and referrals for housing, legal, and community services
  • Assisting with supervised visitation and safe custody exchange services in our Family Visitation Center
  • Participating in trauma-informed, survivor-centered service delivery alongside experienced advocates
  • Court advocacy to assist survivors in obtaining Orders of Protection and navigating court procedures.

All direct client interaction is closely supervised by trained staff to ensure safety, confidentiality, and best practices in trauma-informed care.

Non-Client / Program Support Experience

Interns may also support the organization through non-client-facing work that strengthens overall service delivery. This can include:

  • Administrative support for programs and departments
  • Data entry, reporting, and documentation assistance
  • Support with outreach, prevention education, and community awareness efforts
  • Assistance with event planning, fundraising, and donor stewardship activities
  • Marketing and communications projects, including social media and content development
  • Research and program evaluation support
