Court Advocacy Program: Supporting Survivors in the Legal System
Our Court Advocacy Program (D100) has been supporting survivors of domestic violence, stalking, harassment, bullying, and sexual assault at the Lake County Courthouse since 1984. Our court advocates offer compassionate, free assistance to victims navigating the legal system.
Our Court Advocacy Services Include:
- Assistance with Filing Orders of Protection: Court advocates help survivors file domestic, stalking, and sexual civil no-contact orders at no cost, providing guidance through the paperwork process and offering ongoing support in the courtroom.
- Collaboration with Legal Partners: Our advocates work closely with the State’s Attorney’s office and court personnel to ensure survivors’ needs are addressed and their safety concerns are prioritized.
- Connecting with Community Resources: We help clients access additional support through local agencies, such as Prairie State Legal Services, Catholic Charities, PADS, food banks, and HUD.
Please Note:
While our court advocates are not attorneys and cannot offer legal advice, they can connect clients with legal assistance and direct them to resources for further support.
For more information on who is eligible to file for an order of protection, please visit our Court Eligibility page.
Orders of Protection can now be filed virtually.
- Applications can be done over the phone.
- Court paperwork can be submitted via email.
- Hearings can be conducted in a virtual courtroom.
