Court Advocacy

The Court Advocacy Program (D100) has assisted survivors of domestic violence in the Lake County Courthouse since 1984.

Court advocates assist victims of domestic violence, stalking, harassment, bullying and sexual assault with filing domestic, stalking, and sexual civil no contact orders completely free of charge. We assist filing proper paperwork needed to obtain an order of protection and continue with support in the courtroom. Visit our Court EligibilityCourt Eligibility page for a list of who is eligible to file.

Advocates collaborate with the States Attorney’s office and court personnel to assure client’s needs are met and their safety concerns are addressed.

We help connect clients with other community agencies such as Prairie State Legal Services, Catholic Charities, PADS, Food banks, HUD, etc.

Please note: Court advocates are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice, but can direct and connect clients with legal assistance.
